What Desert Fox Dealers near Midwest had best price?

I'm looking for the best deal I can find on a loaded 4 season aluminum framed Desert Fox 28KS as close as possible to the midwest. Has anyone gotten a great deal from their dealer in the last 12 months or so?

RE: Do I need to replace my tires

Absolutely replace them. I had two front tire blowouts and two other flats on one trip last fall on my seven year old tires that looked perfect. A year or two before, I had two blowouts on my camper, who caused beaucoup $$ damage.

RE: New Tires?

I don't know about "these days" since my truck was an '01, but I don't think the original tires were either Bridgestone or Firestone. I think the tires on the camper were, indeed, Carlisle.

RE: New Tires?

My experience: I bought my 01 F350 in Sept of 2000. I keep it garaged and only drive it on trips. Last year, in preparing for my annual trip to CO, I inspected the tires (they had about 45,xxx miles on them at that time) and aired them up as usual to 80 psi, the max. Tread looked good. Long story short, I had two front blowouts and two other flats during the trip. I replaced them all. Two years before, on a summer trip to CO, I had two blowouts on my camper trailer, which caused extensive (and expensive) damage. I bought the trailer about five years before and do not know how old the tires were when I got it. In the last few days, I watched the video on tire age that was linked to another post herein. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDgSk5xWkrI It was an eye opener. I concluded it's false economy, as well as dangerous, to drive with tires over six years old. My .02.

RE: How do you carry your bicycles? (other than on the ladder)

A front receiver hitch from Cabela's and a receiver bike rack takes care of mine.

RE: contemplating raft & outboard purchase; want feedback

What I really want is a Zodiac Fish n Hunt 11 (wood floor), which iBoats tells me Zodiac has quit distributing in the lower 48. They said they're still available in Canada and Alaska; anybody know?

contemplating raft & outboard purchase; want feedback

In the next couple of years, I'm contemplating upgrading my TC and swapping my TT for a TH. I have canoes and kayaks, as well as a 16' fishing boat, and I'm contemplating getting rid of some of those and getting a raft on the order of a Zodiac Zoom 340S and a 4 stroke 15 hp outboard. The idea is that (1) a raft and outboard is more versatile, in that I can whitewater with the raft or use it with the outboard for fishing; and (2) the raft and outboard are more easily carried, with either the TC or TH. With the TC, I would be pulling a utility trailer with an ATV in which I could also carry the raft/outboard. With the TH, I could carry either the raft or the ATV in the back of the truck or in the TH, or perhaps both in the TH. Does or has anybody out there used a raft/outboard in conjunction with their TC? (or TH, if any TH'ers are reading this forum) Comments, recommendations and suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

RE: How old is the Truck Camper?

MY truck camper is a 1967 Avion C-10, still going. I will probably take it on a trip to Utah in September.

RE: Toys I wanted to buy and passed up

Several come to mind. In about '65 or '66 (age 16), I ran across a 650 Triumph or BSA - can't remember which - single carb, all chromed up including frame, for $300!! I went to look at it, test rode it, but couldn't come up with the money. In about 1968 or 69 (age 19), there was a used '67 yellow 427 Corvette roadster in the local VW dealer's used car lot for $5,000. I test drove it, but it didn't run right. Didn't matter, since I didn't have the $5,000 either. In the mid 80's, I bought a number of Corvettes, however. I still have the '70 all original yellow big block, along with a '65 roadster, so no complaints.

RE: Garmin 750 GPS

I recently bought my 750 at Sam's Club for $299!

RE: EXTREME RV

I think that's the one I looked at locally. Great floor plan, good looking, but I researched it and found that it had wooden framing and a small payload, both deal killers as far as I'm concerned. My interest is now focused on a Thor Tahoe 26FS, which has a similar floor plan, aluminum frame, and a huge payload. My .02.

Thor Tahoe dealer recommendation? Tulsa salesman is a jerk

I'm in SW Missouri, contemplating purchase of a Thor Tahoe 26FS. It looks good on paper, but I haven't seen one in person. Thor website lists Tulsa as nearest dealer. Search on internet came up with Burbank, CA dealer with reasonable price, $28,500 for a loaded (with 4K generator) 2009 model, but they're 1650 miles away. Talked to the Tulsa dealer and they had a new 2007 for $35,000!!! When told of the Burbank price, the salesman said they would sell theirs for $25,xxx. He was very condescending and came across as a real jerk. In sharp contrast, the young (sounding) Hispanic kid in Burbank was very nice and helpful. I cannot find a dealer list; can anyone recommend a good midwest dealer? Anyone have anything bad to say about the 26FS?

RE: Poll – Have You Fallen Off of Your Scissor Steps?

I must have missed this old thread. I fell about ten years ago or so when the steps slipped out of the hanger and I tumbled onto some big chunks of broken concrete as I was getting ready for a trip to Colorado. I went anyway, and became concerned when my foot turned purple. The doc at the rural CO hospital told me my leg was broken, but he'd take an xray to make sure. He came back shaking his head, saying it wasn't broken because I had MASSIVE bones. He gave me some drugs to reabsorb the blood and I ended up with a nasty scar. What I learned from this is to clamp the steps to the hanger with Vise Grips.

RE: Ideal Setup

I have an F350 oil burner which I think was the best choice at the time I bought it. A judge I met the other day swears he regularly gets 30 mpg unloaded with his modified 05 Dodge 3/4 ton 4WD Cummins. That day, he said he got a personal best 33 mpg. If I were looking to buy, at present I think I would look at a diesel 05-06 Dodge or Chevy/GMC. The new ones - the Fords anyway - seem to get appreciably worse mileage. I echo the sentiments above against a pop up. I would look at an Arctic Fox 990 or perhaps that Lance sport model (I don't remember the model number). That's my opinion, for whatever it's worth. Sounds like a great trip plan. Best wishes and good luck.

considering switch to toy hauler; need suggestions, please

I've owned a pop-up, a large fiver, and currently own a truck camper and a bumper pull trailer, the latter a 25 footer. I've been on one hunting trip in a TH, saw the advantages, and one caught my eye yesterday on a lot, an Extreme 23 ST. I really liked the layout on that one. I looked around a bit on this forum, and found that that model seems to lack cargo carrying capacity. Also, it's wood framed and I prefer aluminum. Bottom line query: What TH's, if any, fit the following parameters: aluminum framed, good cargo carrying capacity, front sideways queen, two rear stacked queens, not terribly heavy, and pretty nice inside. Does anything fit the bill? Thanks.

RE: Looking for a small lightweight TH with 3 queen beds

Venable, how do you like that 23ST? I looked at one today.

I met the AK Travelers

Yesterday afternoon at our local Sam's Club, I spotted an S&S TC and went up and introduced myself to Ed (and later Jo) aka Mr. & Mrs. AK Traveler on this forum. Actually, Ed explained Jo is the AK traveler; I visited with Ed for probably 45 minutes and he is a heck of a nice guy. Their rig is pretty spectacular, with more bells and whistles than I've ever seen, from a waste macerator to FastGuns to six batteries. Their propane generator performance is impressive, as well. They must be the boondock King and Queen. It's nice to put faces with some forum members.

RE: TC'ers and Music

I don't go to festivals, but play music from the Tin Pan Alley era through the Rat Pack era on guitar (electric), six string banjo and bass (electric). I'm not particularly fond of bluegrass, but to each his own.
